Ms. Kesuma Saddak, Asia Desk Programme Officer of Misereor, Germany visited Sri Lanka recently to review the progress of the pilot project titled ‘Green Gold Harvesters’ which is being implemented in the Dioceses of Galle, Ratnapura, Kandy and Badulla. The Vigilant Committees formed in these plantation areas under this project are fully functional and are focused not only on addressing the issues faced by these populations in the areas of health, education and sanitation but also on building cordial working relationships with estate managements. At the same time, advocacy and lobbying measures are encouraged in order to ensure that privileges and social benefits available to people living in other parts of the country are enjoyed by those living in plantation areas, too.
