A project to "Provide Legal Aid and Legal Services to Migrant Workers and Their Families" has been initiated with the support of Swiss Development Corporation (SDC) in order to help migrant workers and migrant returnees  to take up the cases relating to various issues faced by them while in foreign employment.

It is being implemented through six partner agencies, namely PREDO (Nuwara Eliya), ESCO (Batticaloa), SOND (Jaffna), SWOAD (Ampara) CDS (Kurunegala) and SETHSARANA (Gampaha) and also through twelve  Caritas Diocesan Centres covering all the Administrative Districts in Sri Lanka.

A network of Complaint Boxes has been installed in all the above venues as well as at the Caritas National Centre in Colombo in order to allow migrant workers who are in need of help to lodge their complaints with regard to deaths of family members, non-payment of wages and compensations, abuses, harassments and other violations. They are free to make submissions in any language of their choice. These cases are then taken up with the Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) and closely followed up with a view to reaching a speedy settlement.

Under this program, Caritas will also liaise with Sri Lankan Embassies in the labour hosting countries to elicit further information as may be needed in pursuing the cases in hand.
