The Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004 devastated Sri Lanka, leaving thousands dead, millions displaced, and entire communities in despair. As the Church and Caritas Sri Lanka stood at the forefront of relief, rehabilitation, and reconstruction, this Eucharistic Celebration served as a tribute to two decades of resilience, faith, and community empowerment.

Through prayers, scripture readings, and reflections, the service emphasized the role of faith in healing and rebuilding. The presence of international partners, who supported Sri Lanka’s recovery efforts, highlighted the spirit of global solidarity that was instrumental in restoring affected communities.

As Sri Lanka continues its journey of resilience, the Holy Eucharist was a moment to renew the collective commitment towards supporting disaster-affected communities, advocating for sustainable development, and fostering a spirit of unity. As the social arm of the Catholic Church, Caritas Sri Lanka, and its partners remain steadfast in their mission to uplift lives through faith-driven humanitarian efforts.
