Every year, International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 with great enthusiasm across the world to honour and treasure the women in one’s daily lives and womanhood in general. This year the theme for International Women’s day for 2022 was ‘ Gender equality today for a sustainable tomorrow.”
Caritas Sri Lanka –SEDEC celebrated International Women’s Day with our National Director, Rev. Fr. Mahendra Gunatilleke, and CSL staff, where all the women of our staff received a yellow rose, which symbolizes friendship, which brought much joy and cheerfulness in making our day great.
Caritas Sri Lanka implements many programs that support, protect, and safeguard women, especially those affected by human trafficking, slavery, and the women working in the plantation sector, where they receive a very small monthly wage. Caritas Sri Lanka-SEDEC goes the extra mile to work towards empowering women so that they can be self-sufficient, strong, and independent in their endeavors.
In solidarity, we also share our goodwill with our fellow women co-workers in the context of working at the grassroots level, in connection with the marginalized and the most needy.
“The best protection any woman can have is courage”
