An orientation programme for DOFEs (Development Officers of Foreign Employment) on Safe Labour Migration was held at HUDEC Hall, Jaffna on 15th of October 2019. This programme commenced with a small prayer and Mr. Basty Rajith, Programme Coordinator, welcomed Caritas Sri Lanka – SEDEC staff, Mr.Sajith Silva, Program Manager; Mrs.Luxsha Ragunan, Programme Coordinator and Ms. R.P. Rishika Dimalshi, Programme Officer.
An Introduction to the Safe Migration Media campaign was conducted by the staff of TBWA who explained to the DOFEs about the methodology and the content of the campaign. They explained the places the mobile campaign will be visiting in the near future.
Mr.Sajith Silva, the Safe Labour Migration Programme Manager of Caritas Sri Lanka – SEDEC explained about the programme and about other stakeholders involved in this project.
Further, a psychosocial support approach was conducted by Rev.Fr. Alen Waraprahasam, Officer for National Unity and Reconciliation and Mrs. Shiromi Lenin, Councillor, Shanthiham. The resource team commenced the sessions with a meditation and conducted many interactive games to get the officers to understand different concepts that will help them when handling the migrant cases and complaints.
DOFEs expressed that the programme was a valuable opportunity for them and requested to organize more programmes for them as they are willing to work on Caritas-led Safe Migration Programme in their Divisions too.
A group of 46 participants, including DOFEs, Diocesan and National Centre Staff took part in the sessions.
