On 10 June 2020, Election Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya confirmed that the postponed parliamentary elections will be held on 5 August 2020 with strict health measures and guidelines. Out of the total population of 22 million, 16.2 million are eligible to cast their vote to elect 225 members for the Parliament of Sri Lanka.
Caritas Sri Lanka – SEDEC prepared this Position Paper as a guideline for the voters in selecting suitable candidates for the sixteenth Parliamentary Elections while considering the contextual situation and the National issues in the country. This Position Paper is to enlighten mainly the general public on the vital importance and obligation as citizens of the country to use their universal franchise and to guide them on their independent choice in the selection of a candidate to vote. We as Caritas Sri Lanka firmly hope that this Parliamentary Elections will herald the beginning of a new era ensuring a healthy balance between the legislature, judiciary and the executive.Position paper CSLS
