The Regional Peace Forum for the Western Region, held on the 31st of October 2024, brought together the beneficiaries to discuss and address the challenges they face locally. This event, funded by MISEREOR, was conducted at the Caritas Chilaw Auditorium from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
There were 29 youth and Regional Peace Forum members, with the DC Directors and peace coordinators from Colombo, Anuradhapura, Chilaw, and Kurunegala dioceses. The event provided a platform for dialogue on relevant topics like conflict resolution, human rights, social justice, and economic stability, which are central to promoting regional peace.
Dr. Ravindra Ranasinghe, the Founder and Director of the National Diploma in Drama Therapy at the Sri Lanka Foundation in Colombo, served as the resource person. Dr. Ranasinghe delivered an insightful session that explored the concept of conflict, effective strategies for managing conflict situations, and techniques to regulate emotional expressions during such instances. He further elaborated on the importance of engaging with actively to navigate conflicts constructively.
Participants actively engaged in discussions, sharing their experiences with conflict and post-conflict scenarios in Sri Lanka. Group activities provided an opportunity for participants to practice active listening and effective communication with a spirit of collaboration and understanding. conflict management strategies, the event contributed to empowering participants with practical tools for promoting peace and resolving disputes in their communities.
