There are many Non Governmental Organisations which are functioning in the district of Jaffna. All of them are involved in the humanitarian service to the people, specially in rehabilitation and reconstruction programmes, while some of them are trying to focus on the issues related to migration.
A programme on Mobilization of other NGOs on Safe Labour Migration was held at HUDEC Hall, Jaffna on 15th October 2019 Evening. Mr. Basty Rajith, Programme Coordinator, welcomed all the participants.
A group of 14 NGO representatives were at the forum.
Mrs. Luxsha Ragunan, Programme Coordinator, Caritas Sri Lanka – SEDEC explained to the NGO officers how the Safe Labour Migration is conducted under the SDC (Swiss Agency for Development and Corporation) funded programme. Further, she also narrated how the Sri Lanka migrants face numerous difficulties as they are not prepared early and due to the lack of knowledge on the safe labour migration practices.
Mr. Basty Rajith requested the Staff of NGOs to create awareness on the safe migration practices and expressed his willingness to join hands with their programmes in reaching out to the people at grass roots level to disseminate the message.
